Hey guys, this is going to be something that going to be considered late, but still relevant.

As anyone who's subscribed to my YouTube channel should know, I got a new gaming PC for Christmas of 2016 and it has Windows 10 Home Edition.

I also got an external disk drive to play CD games with it as the linked video shows, but there's a problem I recently found out about not too long ago.

It was revealed back in August 2015 that Windows 10 won’t run games that use SafeDisc or Securom DRM, and here's one online article that shows that: www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/…

There's also this video I found by IGN:

With that said, Microsoft really screwed up there. From what I heard, you can fix this buy repurchasing games from digital distribution platforms such as Steam and/or GOG Ltd. But why purchase games you already own? I could also however fix the problem with a virtual OS machine, but I might have to be careful when it comes to the hardware and memory when using a virtual machine.

As of today, Microsoft has NEVER fixed this for owners of old CD games. With that said, I hope that Microsoft at least releases some special type of software that can fix this problem.

For fuck's sake people, do some research for once. I too hate Microsoft for what they have done with Windows 10, but this is one of the GOOD things they did. If any of you did a tiny bit of Googling, you'd realize that those two DRMs are literally computer viruses, and might've destroyed that CD drive you got, Aquarius. Microsoft is doing the world a favor by disabling them. Besides, disc-based games are obsolete as all hell, and 99% of modern computers don't even have disc drives. And if you don't want to repurchase those games (not wanting to purchase them is like not wanting to purchase a digital copy of Doom because you own the floppy version), just pirate them, goddamit. If the companies were shady enough to use that DRM knowing the crap it does to computers, they don't deserve your money. And virtual machines are easy to set up, there's no such thing as "having to be careful when it comes to the hardware and memory when using a virtual machine". One more thing, it's not Microsoft's job to fix problems "owners of old CD games" have to people who think they still have warranty or something on ten-year old CDs, it's not their fault that those games' developers didn't give a shit about the players, or that people think decades old software can still reliably be used on modern computers.
