This is a little rant that's pretty much late since the Nintendo 3DS was released in 2011 as how this is something that has to do with old news, but I'm going to talk about it anyway. You see, as we should know, the Nintendo 3DS & Nintendo 3DS XL has a SD card that come with it that stores downloaded games as well as game data, pictures and other data. I thought at first that you could archive the data from the SD Card and save it somewhere else such as a flash drive and transfer the data from there to a new 3DS in case something happened to the old one or if you wanted to replace the old one. Well guess what? That apparently isn't possible. A data transfer can only be done with a feature on your 3DS, and if you lose the old 3DS before you could transfer the data, you lose all of the downloads and the game data for good unless you contact Nintendo about it. You may think you could transfer the data to another SD card of a different 3DS, that apparently isn't possible either as it would ask you to format the SD card eliminating all of your data. I also found out you can only do 5 transfers per system, which also sucks. And if you think you could redownload the game onto a new system from your Nintendo eShop account, you cannot do so even if you already bought it meaning you would have to do a system transfer or buy the damn software again. And losing all of the game data on your old system (such as progress in games) would also suck too. Here's a chat transcript of a chat I had with a Nintendo representative on the Nintendo Support Chat that proves this:
Doesn't that suck? Nintendo should consider what others have done. For example, Mojang saves games you bought from them to your account such as Minecraft, and once you buy it, that's it, it's saved to your account, and it's yours forever as you can download it as many times as you want, as long as you have your account information. Hell, even Apple does this by saving purchased music, movies, apps and more to your Apple ID with just having to know your account info as you can redownload without having to purchase again, and they get criticized a LOT
for some of their actions. The purchases are also linked to your Apple ID as well. But Nintendo doesn't want to do that apparently.
But they might have a change of pace. So let's hope that Nintendo does something that Mojang and Apple do, as the guy I talked to recorded my feedback for the purchasing process and reaccess to purchased titles.
